Professional Software to Partition Hard drive in Windows 7/8/10/11

As technology advances and user needs evolve, computer storage space has increased significantly. The most common size of hard drive storage today is 2048GB, a substantial upgrade from previous capacities. Proper allocation of this space is crucial for maintaining optimal computer performance, as it directly impacts the overall efficiency and speed of the device.

Before installing Windows, it's essential to partition the hard drive to ensure a smooth installation process. This step is often overlooked, but it's crucial to create a separate partition for the operating system to prevent data loss and ensure a clean installation. By partitioning the hard drive, you can also optimize your storage space and improve the overall performance of your computer.

Introduction to Disk Partition

A partition, also known as a volume, is a separate section of a physical disk that can be used to store operating systems and data or files. It's a way to organize and separate different types of data, such as storing the operating system on one partition (like drive C) and personal files or programs on another (like drive D). This allows for better organization and management of data, and the specific use of each partition can be tailored to individual preferences.

This classification system makes it easier to manage and distinguish between different types of storage devices. It also ensures that new disks can be properly partitioned in Windows OS, allowing files and data to be stored on them. Additionally, partitioning a hard disk drive can improve data protection by making each partition independent and unaffected by others.

Way to partition a hard drive

To partition a hard drive easily, administrators can create, delete, format, and resize partitions, making partitioning a hard drive a manageable task.

The built-in Disk Management tool in Windows is not reliable for certain operations, particularly in older systems like Windows XP, 2000, and 2003, which do not have this tool, and even in newer systems like Windows Vista/7/8 and Server 2008, it still has limitations and defects.

I recommend using Qiling Disk Master Professional to optimize computer performance. This third-party software makes it easy to manage and maintain your computer's hard drive, and is compatible with Windows 7, 8, 10, and 11. With its help, you can efficiently partition your hard drive and keep your computer running smoothly.

How to partition a hard drive in Windows 8/7/10/11?

First, download Partition Magic. The following will guide you through the detailed steps of each main feature.

A: Resize Partition

Resizing a volume involves extending or shrinking it, often to address space issues on the operating system drive (usually C drive), which tends to fill up quickly due to the operating system's size, while other volumes like D drive may have ample free space, leading to inefficient storage and potentially affecting the computer's performance. Shrinking the larger volume and extending the system drive can help optimize storage and improve the computer's running efficiency.

This partitioning software allows you to resize hard drive partitions without losing data, making it ideal for increasing free space on a Bitlocker drive. It can also help you resize encrypted partitions easily. To illustrate its capabilities, let's consider an example of using this tool to adjust the size of a partition and optimize the hard drive's distribution.

Step 1: To resize the D drive, launch Qiling Disk Master, right-click on D drive, and select "Resize/Move Partition". In the next window, you can either drag the left bar to the right or manually set the desired size in the box below.

Resize D Partition

Step 2: To free up space on drive C, drag the right bar rightwards, which will create unallocated space from drive D. This unallocated space can then be added to drive C, effectively increasing its capacity.

Resize C Partition

Step 3: Preview the changes on the surface and then click 'Proceed" on the toolbar to save them.

B: Create Partition

Create with a snap-in tool

As for creating, the snap-To create a new partition, you can use Disk Management. Right-click on "My computer", select "Manage", and then find "storage". Choose "Disk Management" and right-click on the unallocated space. Select "New Simple Volume" and follow the wizard to complete the process.

Done! But if the disk space has already been allocated, this method can only bemoan its inadequacy in the face of it. In this case, the following way may be the best and the only solution we can find.

Create with Qiling Disk Master

This all-One software is a good right-hand to us, as it can create a new volume not only from unallocated space but also from an allocated one, provided there is unused space available. In this case, we will operate in the latter situation.

Open the main console, right-To resize a drive, click on the "E:" drive and select the "Create" option from the popup window. Then, move the middle slider right or left to adjust the size, or enter a specific size and drive letter in the box below. Finally, click the "Proceed" button to apply the changes. (Note: screenshot not included, but the process is described in detail)

C: Delete Partition

To delete an unnecessary or useless drive to free up space for other applications, Disk Management can be used, but it has a drawback - deleted partitions and files can be recovered by malicious intent. To avoid this, Qiling Disk Master can be used instead, which thoroughly and permanently wipes data during the deletion process of a partition.

The process of deleting a drive is straightforward: simply right-click on the target drive and select "Delete". What's notable is that the system boot volume can only be deleted using the "Wipe Hard Drive" function, which sets it apart from the standard deletion process.

D: Format Partition

Wiping a drive is not a recommended operation as it will delete all existing data. If a wipe is necessary, it's crucial to back up important information first. This is especially true when converting file systems between NTFS and FAT32, as all data will be lost during the process.

To format a drive, you can either directly format it in the computer or use Qiling's partition manager. To do so in the computer, you can open the main console, right-click the drive you want to format, and choose 'Format'.

Summary

Qiling Disk Master Pro Edition is a helpful tool for partitioning a hard drive on laptops or desktops, offering functions like creating, deleting, formatting, and resizing partitions. Additionally, it provides a schedule defrag service to maintain the health of hard drives.
