When the Windows 11 Start menu stops opening, search, pinned apps, and shutdown access may also be affected. The problem can come from Explorer, updates, profiles, or system files.
Before creating a new profile or resetting Windows, try lower-risk repairs. Back up user files if the profile may be damaged.
Try these steps in order.
Back up profile files before repairing a broken Start menu or creating a new user account.
Step 1. Connect an external drive or choose a safe network location with enough free space for Windows 11 user profile files.
Step 2. Open Qiling Disk Master and choose File Backup. This protects files before cleanup, partition changes, repair, or system updates.
Step 3. In the tree control, select the files and folders that must be protected. Include Desktop, Documents, Downloads, browser exports, and app data you need
Step 4. Choose a destination that is not affected by the operation, such as another disk, external drive, NAS, or shared folder.
Step 5. Review the source and destination, then click Proceed. Wait for the backup to finish before continuing.
Confirm Start, Search, Settings, and pinned apps open normally. If only one user profile fails, migrate files to a healthy profile.
