Turning off OneDrive sync can stop unwanted uploads, reduce bandwidth, or keep folders local. The key is to understand which files are online-only and which are stored locally.
If you unlink OneDrive before downloading online-only files, those files may not be available locally. Check file status icons first.
Disable sync carefully.
Back up local OneDrive folders before unlinking or changing sync settings.
Step 1. Connect an external drive or choose a safe network location with enough free space for local OneDrive folders and user files.
Step 2. Open Qiling Disk Master and choose File Backup. This protects files before cleanup, partition changes, repair, or system updates.
Step 3. In the tree control, select the files and folders that must be protected. Include files that must remain available after OneDrive sync is turned off
Step 4. Choose a destination that is not affected by the operation, such as another disk, external drive, NAS, or shared folder.
Step 5. Review the source and destination, then click Proceed. Wait for the backup to finish before continuing.
After turning off sync, open File Explorer and confirm important files are still available locally.
