Disk Cleanup may fail to open, freeze, or remove less space than expected in Windows 11. The cause may be permissions, corrupted temporary files, update cache, or a busy cleanup service.
Cleanup tools should not be used blindly on a nearly full or unstable system drive. Back up important files before deleting Windows.old, update cache, or large temporary folders.
Try low-risk fixes first.
Back up important files before aggressive cleanup or repair commands.
Step 1. Connect an external drive or choose another safe destination with enough space for Windows 11 user folders on C drive.
Step 2. Open Qiling Disk Master and choose File Backup. This keeps a copy of important files before you change partitions, boot settings, cleanup options, or Windows installation files.
Step 3. In the tree control, select the files and folders that must be protected. Include Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Pictures, and project folders before deleting large cleanup targets
Step 4. Choose another internal disk, external drive, NAS folder, or network path as the destination. Avoid saving the backup to the partition that will be changed.
Step 5. Review the source and destination, then click Proceed. Wait until the backup completes before continuing with the repair or setup task.
After cleanup, check C drive free space and restart Windows. Make sure Windows Update and installed apps still work normally.
