Installing Windows Server 2022 is more than clicking through Setup. You should confirm hardware support, edition, licensing, storage layout, network drivers, and backup status first.
A clean installation can erase partitions. An in-place upgrade can keep roles and data but still needs a full backup and rollback plan.
Prepare the server before installation.
Back up server files and create bootable media before installing Windows Server 2022.
Step 1. Connect an external drive or choose another safe location with enough free space for the files on the existing server data volumes.
Step 2. Open Qiling Disk Master and choose File Backup. This protects documents, photos, downloads, and project files before you change Windows settings or disk layout.
Step 3. In the tree control, select the files and folders related to the existing server data volumes. Include shared folders, configuration exports, databases, license files, and scripts.
Step 4. Select the external drive, another internal disk, or a network folder as the destination. Avoid saving the backup on the same partition that will be changed.
Step 5. Review the task name, source, and destination. Click Proceed and wait until the backup finishes.
Step 1. Prepare an empty USB drive and connect it to a working computer. Back up the USB first because it may be formatted.
Step 2. Open Qiling Disk Master and choose Create Bootable Media. This helps you start a computer when Windows cannot boot normally.
Step 3. Select the USB boot device option and choose the correct USB drive. Confirm the drive letter and capacity before continuing.
Step 4. Click Proceed and wait for the bootable media to be created. Use it for server installation or recovery preparation.
After installation, install drivers, configure networking, apply updates, restore data, and verify server roles before returning the server to production.
