Backup Cleanup in Qiling Backup

Backup Cleanup in Qiling Backup is a crucial feature that automatically removes history backup versions based on a set rule, helping to save storage space.

How to Setup Backup Cleanup in Qiling Backup

When creating a new backup task, it automatically enables a clean rule, eliminating the need to manually enable the schedule.

The default cleanup rules in Qiling Backup is:

Full backup retention period: 60 Day.

Incremental/Differential backup retention period: 7 Day.

Always retain: the first full backup.

To edit or disable the backup cleanup rule, navigate to the "Default Clean Content" setting page. From there, you can modify or disable the rule as needed.

You can adjust the retention time for full, incremental, and differential backups, which will automatically delete old backup versions that meet the set time. Additionally, you can enable always retaining the first full backup, ensuring it's not deleted, and specify the time interval for this retention, such as weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly.

Setup Backup Cleanup on Existing Backup Task

If you don't enable the backup cleanup feature, you can still set up backup cleanup after the backup is created.

To set up a backup cleanup for an existing backup task, click on the "Backup Task" tab and locate the backup task you want to configure a backup cleanup for.

To enable backup cleanup for the task, click the "..." button and select "Edit".

If you want to disable the backup cleanup, click "Edit" and then click the setup backup cleanup option to turn off backup cleanup for the task.

Cleanup Rules of Full/Incremental/Differential Backup

Full backup cleanup will delete a single full backup when it meets the specified cleanup rule.

Incremental backup cleanup will delete all incremental backups of a whole group when the last incremental backup of the group meets the cleanup rule, but the full backup of the group will only be deleted when it meets its own cleanup rule.

Differential backup cleanup will delete differential backups when they meet their cleanup rules, but full backups will not be deleted until they meet their own cleanup rules.
